IHMSA NEWS ON INTERNET?

Post by LOCKHART »

I recieved my copy of IHMSA news yesterday, and I see where the
President is saying that the newspaper will be on the internet in
the near future. She also said that anyone wanting the printed
copy could recieve it, instead. Any comments?

We have been commenting on this for quite some time. See the other posts. It is about time. Should have happened a long time ago.

I have no issue with it. My question is how is IHMSA going to publish the paper in a very short run and save money? The current printer prints based on page count (if the contract is the same as the one I negotiated) and not number of copies printed. Maybe photocopying?

Thats exactly what I was thinking also, Steve. I think put it on the internet and
forget about any more printing costs. I can look up results at my job. I dont have
an internet connection at home anymore, due to a dispute with my former cable
supplier. We have to get some cost controls in places soon, on something, or
we gonna be outta business, I'm afraid.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong about this, but why doesnt EVERY member of IHMSA
get to vote on things that affect this sport? Just because you are not a Life member
shouldnt have anything to do with it, i think. The president said in her report in the
latest issue that she "had notified all the Life members about the issue of putting the
IHMSA NEWS on internet. That just doesnt seem right to me. What about all of us
"water boys" that just go to the matches every month? Just wondering.....!

She may have been referring to all the old life members (I don't think IHMSA has offered life memberships in several years) that may not have internet access, and have been receiving their printed paper every month. Questioning what does IHMSA do with them if they decide to put the News on the internet.

When we paid for a life membership it included 10 years of the paper. When the 10 years ran out we paid extra to get the paper till death do us part.

Mugs,

We newer Life members paid $420 which was to include the paper for life. Of course, there is no "contract" that states what form the paper will be delivered in; so, an Internet version works for me. Now, Life members without Internet is another issue which I will not get in the middle of. That's between IHMSA & those members assuming they care.

In my eyes were between a rock and a hard spot, can't afford to pay printing/postage, yet many members would be cut off because they don't have the ability to go on line to read the paper. I think we may just have to cut lose those without computer.Throw off lose baggage to keep the ship from taking on water..... It's a tough call to make

Once summer gets here and I get that nice school teacher summer vacation thing, I'm going to get to work on getting the IHMSA News on the Internet. I've already talked to Eido Printing and have a couple of ideas, but the last month of school is crazy and then I'm just getting this editor thing figured out, but I hope to have something for folks soon. Then we can see how it works as far as those who want a hard copy vs electronic, and then go from there.
