The 2017 Louisiana IHMSA Championship Match is in the books and what a great match it was! Eleven competitors completed a total of 32 entries. This is double the participation of our 2016 match. Wayne Smith came from Florida to join us and fired some great scores and was just one point shy of the 60 club in Field Pistol. IHMSA Region 2 Director Allen Gaskin was with us and used his iron sighted Anschutz to score two 39s; one in UAS and the other in Practical Hunter. Philip Braud was once again the act to follow with three 40X40 scores (UAS – PHSC – PH22). New IHMSA member Carey Templet borrowed Philip’s 22 Hornet Practical Hunter gun and scored a matching 40X40. This prompted a shoot-off between Philip and Carey, each having to shoot the same one gun. Familiarity allowed Philip to edge out Carey 9 targets to 5. Another shoot-off was required to determine first place in UAS/INT. Fifth scale chickens at 100 are no easy target but Kayla Bonner edged out Allen Gaskin by one target for the win. An obvious trend is emerging here with 75% of all entries being fired using scopes. Several shooters stayed to the end to help Philip and I load all the targets----many thanks. Also thanks to my wife Carolyn for serving as target setter for the entire match. I will publish my 2018 match schedule as soon as I can finalize the dates.-----------See Y’all next year.
