A .38 Super for Field Pistol?

With hand arthritis becoming more of an issue I'm searching for a cartridge I can use. I've never seen the .38 Super or +P version of it as choices. It appears to be legal. With the exception of the "sound barrier" issue, is there anything "wrong" with the .38 Super or +P version for field pistol in a quality 1911?

One of our regular Field Pistol shooters has a 1911 type pistol in .38 Super which he shoots off and on, usually as a re-entry. Does OK with it, but he has also managed to do respectably with a DAO 1 78" barreled revolver, too!(At least one critter at every distance.) Only downsides to the auto pistol are having to chase brass, a rather short sight radius (unless you go FPAS), and the fact that it usually means spending a considerable amount more to get a truly mechanically precise (accurate) pistol out of the box. If money isn't a hinderance, a 6" barreled adjustable sighted Les Baer ought to be more than equal to the task! (I've contem[laed that one for some time....)
