Barrel hold with revolver

Post by jmoore »

Would require glove and arm protection, I reckon, but seems to work well dry firing on a long barreled S&W that has just had a 30mm reddot installed.

Just wondering if anyone has been nutty enough to have already tried it?

next decent range day, I intend on doing it as a test with some not particularly warm .44 CB loads.

Thanks for input! May be an experiment put on hold until after the next match, what with the weather and end of squirrel season and all. Two more days to try and find a fox squirrel for the season. Deer are more plentiful in these parts!

Saw a guy at the 2008? International shoot taco with a 44? Or a .445 SM?
The flame from the cylinder gap pretty effectively cauterizes the wound.
Somebody help me with his name, he rode a motorcycle and called him Big Noise. Mike Big Noise.

He was one tough dude. He did not stop after the first shot and continued to shoot until we made him stop.
Only time I have ever seen it done and he was bleeding from the left forearm.

IIRC Mr. Puffert at Crittenden Ky used to shoot a 32-20 Dan Wesson with a welders glove. It had a rifle scope and he held it in the Taco position when Field pistol first started.

I have a welder's coat and gloves, but the glove seems too thick. I do have an old thin glove with a couple of squirrel hides sewn on (round about 2003, IIRC) that I use when shooting muzzleloaders. It's worked to keep cap fragments and powder away so far! Getting kinda tatty, though. Fur's starting to fall off...

Maybe this AM there will be live fire testing!

Well, that was a non-event! Felt a little weird in recoil, but no flesh wounds or nuttin'. Untested revolver and new loads, but seems promising. Hope to try it this weekend at the monthly match.

Jim, that was Mike Stanley from Wisconsin. Here's the test subject. Test reddot, revolver, ammo, hold. Ought to be an interesting trial! Generally acceptable on bullseye targets at 25 and 50yards. May not have a chance to try 100yd before the match. No 75yard opportunities at my usual range.
