2020 IHMSA World Championships
By Jim Fields - Match Director
The 2020 IHMSA World Championships held at the Oklahoma City Gun Club July 17th thru the 24th, was a total success with entries totaling 403, not bad considering the turn-out was down due to the COVID-19 situation & some last-minute cancellations. I want to personally thank everyone who attended this match & especially those who helped me during this match, much appreciated. Special thanks to Marvin Wahl traveling from California, I think he was the only Participant from the west coast. Thanks to Kenny for feeding us every day from his food truck. His large burgers! were Fantastic!!!
Special thanks to our new IHMSA president, Doug Edney & his wife April for all the stat house work along with Jan Meyers who entered scores each & every day.
Weather conditions were amazingly on the cool side for Oklahoma this time of year, most mornings, until around noon, were in the 78-degree range with temperatures averaging around 92 degrees for the 9 days of the event, & wind conditions for the entire match were on the calm side as the scores below indicate. Our target painters did an excellent job the entire nine days.
Our 23-foot wide firing line provided spotters & spectators the convenience of shaded area from morning into the late afternoon. Length as been extended to 403 ft.
On Friday the shoot-offs began at 8:30 am sharp & lasted to about 11:30 am. & some excellent shooting was observed by all, the trophy presentation followed in our air-conditioned main clubhouse. Mark Basham OH, won the Savage Predator rifle chambered in the ever popular 6.5 Creedmoor topped with a 4x16 Nikon scope. Mike Kraft, KS won the Shilen barrel certificate.
Roy Focht won the scope category in ULTRA 500 with a 39x40, down a turkey & John Weaver winning both the ULTRA 500 iron-sight & the aggregate championship, 34x40 iron, 37x40 scope, which resulted in an aggregate score of 73x80, great shooting guys.
Nolen Golden a junior shooter from the great state of Texas won most of the junior awards with a high score in UAS-BB, 80x80+5 shoot-off targets, great shooting Nolen. You da man!!
Most definitely one of the highlights of the match was Jim Kesser, region 3, not only winning the 8-gun aggregate Iron Man award, but shooting some excellent standing scores as well, congratulations Jim on a fantastic match.
Woody Liddell shot an 80x80 in SB Unlimited, with ten shoot-off targets to win the Anschutz trophy for the second time, congrats Woody.
80’s shot in this match, BIG BORE, Revolver, 0, Production, one (1), BB Unlimited, six (6), BB 1/2 scale, five (5) & BB UAS, eleven (11)

The 2021 IHMSA World Championships, for the EIGHTH time in the last TEN years, again will be held here at the Oklahoma City Gun Club, the dates are set for July 16th thru the 24th. Make plans to attend that one for sure & hopefully all this virus BS will be behind us.
