Region 8 Results July 3-6

Sorry, I know the formatting stinks, but figured a quick cut and paste was better than nothing.

Region 8 Championship
Southern Hills Silhouette Club
Pringle, SD
July 3-6, 2014
by Richard Pattison, Match Director

Another Region 8 match is in the books. We had a great turnout with 240 entries crossing the line, and shooters coming from 8 different states as well as Canada. States represented were South Dakota, Wyoming, Colorado, Nebraska, Kansas, Missouri, Minnesota, and California, as well as the Canadian province of Saskatchewan.
As is often the case, Joe Frey was the first person to the line waiting for the match to start and the last one off of it as the match ended. Having to spend a day in Deadwood cut into his entries as he only was able to get in 18 guns this time—but you have to keep your spotter happy too! Chris Lewis got her first 5 chickens standing, then her loving spotter Jim helped her out, noticing the ground wasn’t level where she was standing. He grabbed a shovel and leveled it out—however, that didn’t allow her perfection to continue much longer.
We had great weather and took full advantage of it, with cookouts on Friday and Saturday, the usual cleanup of leftovers on Sunday, and lots of great fun and conversation.
We really appreciated the large number of women shooters at our match as well, and they put up some great scores. Our lady shooters included: Chris Lewis, Shirley Bakken, Ally Walters, Vicki Schlautmann, Pam Frey, Meghan Frey, Linda Lanning, Jean Scoggin, Cindy Smith, and Sherri Johnson.
We hope everyone can come out and join us for our South Dakota State Championship August 28-31st. We will be celebrating 20 years of shooting at our range in Pringle. Please come out and join us for some great friends, food, and of course, shooting!

You did but we had 25 gallons of home-brew and 20 or more pounds of fish plus a tremendous dinner every night. Shooting was an excuse to party at the WCC! :-! ^#(^ :-bd

The 240 entries is the high mark so far--WCC had 215, ECC had 223, OK state shoot had 158. The encouraging thing to me is that from an entry stand point, the WCC held steady from last year, and the other three shoots were all up from last year (in the case of the ECC, they were up about 75 guns from last year!). So that is a great sign for IHMSA. And if I had been able to make the WCC this year, that would have been up too, because I think I shot about 20 guns there last year.

It was great to see some of the far travelers make their way to the Black Hills this year. Jerry Ray came from CA, John & Steve made the trip again from MN, the Bakkens were down from Canada, and Don Klein travelled from the Missouri Ozarks with the whole family to get a nice family vacation in which also allowed Don to get some shooting in. That is my favorite part of these larger shoots--getting to see people from all over the country, and seeing people that you may only get the chance to see once a year. We appreciate everybody's efforts to get here and have a good time. The home brew though is a definite touch that only the WCC provides (so far…)
