Range and match safety

Post by aggshooter »

As we enter the 2024 outdoor season, please be reminded that the same act of "knocking the rust off" may also include some unsafe practices. Match directors and shooters alike need to be aware of their gun, barrel, and muzzle direction at all times during the shooting process.

----Your gun can't recoil back past vertical.

----You can't let your muzzle sweep other shooters on the line, including during the reloading process.

----Your gun needs to be horizontal with the barrel pointed downrange before you pull the hammer back (TC, BF, Rev), engage the transfer bar (MOA), or close the bolt.

It's easy to let safety slide during the off season, shooting with a buddy, or trying to load an air gun from freestyle position. It's also easy for match directors and shooters alike to be pro-active on these things and remind any offenders of the proper way to stay safe. A quick word with a shooter at a local match may prevent a DQ at a larger match or another facility.

Due to recent cutbacks the light at the end of the tunnel has been turned off.
