Drawing or photo of resettable targets

Post by Mustang Gregg »

**== **== **== **== **==

I recently had to get a new phone and I lost many photos that wouldn't transfer. 8-|
I had pictures of the KD & reset mechanism for the .22 targets on Range Four at the Ike's near Bennet, NE.
If anyone has a successful resetting system and wouldn't mind sharing some images and helpful hints, I would really appreciate it.

Much obliged,
Mustang

I built this electronic one with a remote to reset the target. It's a high torque servo controlled by a couple microcontrollers and some bits of scrap metal to build the frame. I have DM targets custom cut some chickens with a longer leg and a foot with holes to mount them on a hinge. When the targets are upright the exposed bit of the leg matches the official target dimensions. I'm working on the other 3 now. They're probably not legal for actual competition due to the modifications to the targets, but they're great for practice.

I used a lot of digital fabrication tools like a laser cutter, 3D printer, and CNC plasma cutter. Everything but the case and panel for the remote could be made with standard metalworking tools. I just used what I had access to. I can send you a case and faceplate if you want to make one, along with the code for the microcontrollers. I don't have much in the way of drawing, but it's very simple mechanically.

That is great. Your engineering is right on the money.

I am considering extending my targets down about 6 in below as a hinge point and using a pull cable similar to what I have on my cable-pull combat/cowboy KD rack for resetting them.

And if the "Surplus Center" in LNK has a decent deal on reversible linear actuators, I'll check them out for the reset mechanism.
