Sad story

Post by Shoot2Thrill »

My brother and I went to a shoot today south of Indiana, PA. It was at Burrell Rod and Gun Club. This club used to have sanctioned IHMSA shoots, but not anymore. We just went to see a different club and get some practice. The man who my brother spoke with before our trip said that the involvement is way down. This was very true because my brother and I were the only 2 shooters who showed. The director met us there and let us shoot. We set up targets and shot for 3 hours. This club has very nice grounds. The silhouette range needs some tlc like weeds cut, gravel added to banks, and some steel rails bent back. They have great targets also. It would not take much to get it back to a functional and operating silhouette range. If I didn't live 2 hours away, I would be there getting the range back into shape. Heck, if a member of the club took the bull by the horns and wanted to bring IHMSA back, then I would go down there and help out. This place has way too much potential to let it go to hell. If anyone from that area reads this, please consider saving this range.

Dave, I hope you get some response from you post. Did you shoot your Striker?

I'm Doug. My brother Dave is hosspower. Yes, he did shoot the striker. He cleaned the chickens and maybe the pigs too. He didn't attempt turkeys because it was difficult to see them due to the garden growing. Rams were a little easier to see and he got a few of them, but I don't remember how many.

My title of sad story does not compare to the real 'sad story'. I just saw on facebook that Major Golden from Tombstone passed away. I recently read some articles where he was mentioned and his ability with a ruger sbh.

Doug, can you provide more info on Major Golden - he was an old, dear friend to my brother Charlie and myself. :(

Phillip,

From his son Lance on facebook;

"I wanted to take a minute and let Y'all know My Dad, Major Golden Passed away at 4:30 PM. He had congestive heart failure, and a multitude of complications from it. He left the world KNOWING he will be loved and missed!"

RIP Major.

John

Major was a good friend. I shot at Tombstone one time, Standing of course. We talked on the phone many times. I will miss him!

PA IHMSA ranges I am guessing have been overshadowed by NRA silhouette.

Pittsburgh area NRA silhouette:
1st Saturday of the month - Irwin

2nd Saturday of the month - Rosedale

3rd Saturday of the month - Coraopolis

4th Saturday of the month - Dormont/Mt Lebanon

Burrell Twp IHMSA is also second Saturday. I am assuming the NRA guys shoot the circuit leaving Burrell the odd man out. I am planning on going to Coraopolis next Saturday so I should have some of my questions answered.

braud357, I read articles from state and region championships. I stumbled upon these articles on the web looking for something else for IHMSA. One thing that stuck with me was that at one match Major shot 32 or 34 targets standing with a sbh. That is impressive.
