Jim Scoutten did cover the Internationals in 1998 when he was hosting American Shooter, the predecessor to Shooting USA. I have it on tape.
Thanks for providing that info Dean. I had thought it had been covered before but could not remember the details.

A point to consider............that coverage in 1998 did not impede our slide. Maybe it was the right approach but not followed up with more coverage. I however feel that the true issue lies elsewhere and I have discussed my feelings already.......... no need to repeat them.

Rodent, I do not want to turn IHMSA into shooting for money. It was just
a suggestion. We have already gotten the equipment race going, we dont
need any other distractions to compound that.

My guess is that you'll get a pleasant, polite reply. Maybe Jim will go into some detail and mention that we have had coverage some years ago. What I think he wont mention is that we are not ''exciting'' enough. We don't have ''running and gunning'' and all that ''adrenaline''. There isn't enough action to hold an audience, unless it is the golf crowd.
I have served as assistant match director, Southern Silhouette club, 1980s. Also, the Griffin Gun Club for Silhouette during the 1990s, to about 2005. For a short period I authored the ''Cast Bullet'' section of The IHMSA News. Joined IHMSA March 1979.

I contacted Jim Scouten a few years ago and he said he would try to make the Internationals but his schedule had conflicts. That was the end of it.

I ran the IHMSA matches in New Braunfels, Texas for 10 years, and I tried and
tried to get local sports new outlets to come to our match, and write an
article about it, to no avail. The newspaper in Austin was owned by Cox Newspapers,
a notorious hater of firearms, so I really wasnt surprised when the outdoor
writer for them never showed up, or even responded to me. I think that if we
could actually GET some local t.v. coverage, it would help get new people
interested.

I agree with Gerald in that we have to keep trying to get a little exposure to the sport--it is hard to promote something if people don't know about it.

Maybe results would vary some depending on the area of the country in which you live. I know I have had zero luck here in Colorado--no surprise there! They are too busy running 5 stories a day about smoking weed!
