The forums use certain security functions to prevent Spammers from making A mess of the forums.

These are the security procedures used:

1. During registration, Your IP address is checked against a database of IP addresses used by spammers. If it is found, The forums will not allow you to register and MAY tell you that you are a Spammer. The forums will Ban this IP address for 1 day. But The database will mark the IP address for up to 3 months depending on how many times it has been reported. If you get this, Please Take it up with www.stopforumspam.com or with your ISP as this is not a function that the admins have control of here. The IP address is only checked once during registration.

2. After this, The forums use Spambot countermeasures to catch the spambots. This includes the sending of verification email to complete registration.

3. After Registration is complete, Your first 2 posts must be approved by an Admin or moderator before they will show up. During this time, you also are unable to send Private Messages.

These are the stats on why we have these requirements:

1. The forums ban on average 40-80 IP addresses Per day.
2. The webmaster email account gets anywhere from 50-100 Spam emails per day
3. even with these procedures, I delete 10-15 spam posts or ban Users who post spam per week. This does not include the Spam posts taken care of by the other admins or Moderators.

Thanks Dan,

You and Tina are the most overworked and under-appreciated people in the IHMSA organization.
