Target facing direction rules?

I have started building an IHMSA small bore rope reset-KD range.
We have been away from silhouette shooting for quite a while and I have been told that there are specifically facing directions for the banks of targets.

We are building eight banks of five targets.
I am planning on having the left five facing toward the right five at each distance.
I am sure this is legal for IHMSA.
I have seen it used.

I was also told that if we used NRA rules that the targets must be all facing the same direction throughout the range. Is that true?

Much obliged,

You are absolutely correct in your assumption.

I have shot both organizations and shot quite a few NRA National matches.

The reasoning is this; the NRA feels if the banks are not exactly identical, then it gives one competitor an advantage over another. Particularly in windy conditions.

In IHMSA the targets are faced in opposing direction every other bank because it provides an additional visual separation for the shooter. It is somewhat less likely for a shooter to shoot on the wrong bank if the targets in his bank are faced different than the targets to either side.

I have shot both and prefer the IHMSA manner.

I can be a little confusing to get on the right bank if there are multiple banks and they are all going the same way.

My 2 cents.

Thank you, Jim!

I appreciate the fast answer and the clarification.

With the NRA way of thinking of facing them all the same direction can definitely be more confusing.
And I don't think facing them opposite directions is really a disadvantage.

Thank you and now we have a general plan to get started.

Now to figure out where to put the fulcrum point on each of the KD targets.
I could just measure and duplicate what we used at the Ike's, Bennet, NE, but I'm no longer a member there.

I am going to make it easier for you.

There is only 1 Rule for both IHMSA and NRA and that is the 5 Targets in each bank Must face the same way. There is no other rule in either NRA or IHMSA rulebooks. the way to set targets between banks is at the Match Directors discretion!

I have seen quite a few ways in range setup.
Most of the time for IHMSA and NRA long range/Short range pistol silhouette, They will shoot 5 targets, then Reset the range. these normally will have each bank facing different directions.

For Hunter Pistol and Rifle Silhouette, They normally will shoot all 10 targets, then reset the range. they will normally set both banks facing the same way to make it easier for the shooter.
