One thing to <consider> is to make PH Short Course into FP-UAS (with some of the current PH restrictions).

Re: Practical Hunter Legal
This general idea would be a good start, except I would suggest FP-UAS using current UAS restrictions right down the line except for approved cartridges, which should follow FP guidelines to prevent target damage. I've said from the start that PHSC was the only real new category because it gives us a centerfire freestyle 100m category where none existed before. PHLC and PH22 are so close to being UAS that they are practically redundant.

Re: Practical Hunter Legal
I agree with Charlie - how about this proposal ??
Eliminate Practical Hunter .22 Category - it is redundant(basically SB UAS Any-sight with a low-power scope)
Eliminate Practical Hunter Long Course Category - it is redundant (basically Big Bore UAS Any-Sight with a lower power scope)
Make Practical Hunter Short Course the only Practical Hunter category. Use FP cartridge restrictions, and general rules for UAS. I would like to see NO scope restrictions, but could live with the current 6X limit. As Charlie stated - it is the only category that offered something new !!
Who agrees with this ???????? (Thanks Charlie !!)

Now I know this picture is of my unlimited gun BUT this is a perfect illustration of cosmetic only!
I shoot creedmore right handed so the laser engraving and autograph ( Capt America) are cosmetic and serve zero functional purpose.
Told wife she's lucky IHMSA is my mid life crisis, it's cheaper than a Corvette or chasing younger women!

His response was - if I am remembering correctly was "Unlimited" ! Again - please correct me if I am wrong !
2.
Optics are allowed up to a maximum of 6X power. The use of higher variable power scopes will be allowed, But they must not be used over 6x during the course of fire. The use of fixed power scopes over 6x is not allowed.
3.
Guns must be as manufactured with only cosmetic modifications.
4.
Ported barrels are allowed as long as they are shot from a SAFE position.
5.
A rest such as a bipod or a sandbag supporting the barrel in the prone position may be used by an unclassified shooter and by shooters in classes A and AA. Allow Artificial support in practical hunter for shooters up to 12 birthday.
Any gun under 21” in length

Re: Practical Hunter Legal
Just what exactly is a "hunting style handgun"? I'm not trying to muddy the water here but I feel this is open to widely varying interpretation. Arguably any handgun can be used to hunt with, depending on what you are going to hunt and your proficiency level. The wider point here is that the PH rules really do need a rewrite with a heavy consideration towards possibly deleting PHLC & PH22.

Re: Practical Hunter Legal
ok, I found something. I have attached the Jan/Feb 2011. I cannot edit and remove sections for some reason.
on Page 2, under "Vice Presidents Column" it lists the original intent of Practical Hunter.
On Page 3, it lists the voted on Rules for practical hunter.

Re: Practical Hunter Legal
Hell Melvin - I do not know a single new shooter !! This is why I think that my proposal should be considered - we already have categories to cover .22 and long-range centerfire guns !
