Rules - Time for a rewrite?????

Post by 260 Striker »

Have been looking at the latest (2016) rules and think we need to have them updated. Many inconsistencies since PH has been added and also now can use aftermarket springs. Just two items that come to mind. While reading Section VI: Handguns, in paragraph 14.B) "There is no limitation on optical magnification power" while in PH there is a 6X limit. Doesn't that seem strange???? Earlier in 12. B) springs from a manufacturer other than the original manufacturer are not allowed. We all know this rule has been changed. Seems like our recent rule changes have just been tacked onto the end and not thoroughly consolidated into the remaining rules. This would be a great time to revisit ALL the rules to eliminate conflicting terms/statements so we can have a clean, up to date rule book for next year. I don't know who drafted the original PH rules but maybe they would reconsider the 6X scope limitation now. Big Bore, Short Course and .22lr courses of fire allow scopes greater that 6X in PAS, US and UAS so why not allow scopes greater than 6X for PH classes? No limits on PAS, US or UAS scoped guns so make PH rules the same.

Anyway, it wouldn't hurt to have a clean, up to date rule book to be posted on the IHMSA.ORG site for potential new shooters.

Since there is limited competitions for the next month at least, should we consider rules discussions?
My pet peeve is bottlenecked cartridges with length <= 1.30".

If you think something needs to be addressed, please put it in writing and send it to our rules committee chairmen.
As far as a “ rewrite “ of the rule book, do we have any volunteers to head this up ? Please advise.

Recently, I have reviewed the bylaws and rule book. I think we should talk sometime Lynn to nail down some specifics to submit to the rules chairman.

The Ultra 500 section describes a method to set the rams:
The rams shall be set so that it takes between 28 and 32 ounces to pull them over with a trigger pull scale or other scale. Any cartridge and bullet may be used to shoot the course of fire, but in the event of properly set rams not falling when hit, these targets will be scored as misses.

Is there any reason that this method cannot be defined for Big Bore?
