New guy with a 7mm INT -R

Post by Peabody »

Hello from West Central Missouri.
I'm an old retired truck driver.
Who happened to love the Thompson center contender carbine.. with a few pistol barrels too.
My favorite caliber's is the 7mmTCU.
And the .30 Herrett....
But ? Always wanted a 7mm Herrett...
Then just the other day, I stumbled upon the 7mm INT -R
I thought ? Wow ? "Almost" a 7mm Herrett...
Found a set of Dies on fleabay...
Dug up an old 7tcu 11.25" six groove barrel..
Thinking to take it to Mr B.. have him rechamber it to the 7international-R
What y'all think of the 7international ?

I moved this to the appropriate forum....

The 7mm INTL-R is similar to a 7-30 Waters, based on 30/30 case and more powerful than a 7mm herrett

I have always been a huge fan of the 7mm Int-R(7R for short). Super easy to make and fire form the brass. I have two Contender barrels for it. First is a rechambered 14” 7 TCU barrel ( the work was done by Robert Gates in 1983). Work was first class and it dearly loves 748 as a propellant and Hornady 162 btsp’s. Next is a Bullberry 21” carbine barrel. Have taken quite a few deer with it using 120 grain Sierra or Nosler bullets. With 35.0 grains of 748 I get 2650 fps. Last is a 7R in a 10” Wichita International Pistol. Love its.45 Auto style grip. Used this pistol to win Standing big bore in1993 at the Internationals in Tennessee.

The 7R came out in the 1983 timeframe. TC was all set to run with it in factory 10 and 14 barrels, but, when Winchester adopted the 7-30 Waters in the model 94, TC went with the Waters in their barrels as well.

I have had 10 and 14 inch barrels in both the 7R and 7-30 Waters. After a great deal of side by side testing I concluded the two cartridges are near ballistic twins. Any difference between the two is a few feet per second: for one or the other!

Some people say the 7R is too much gun/blast. I disagree. It can be loaded down to knock over silhouettes or throttled up for hunting. It’s a good one just to be different.

In Liberty,

Gus

I think that I have an extra set of 7mm Int-R dies.
