Xp 100 refurb

Post by 7br »

I have had my xp in 7br for 25 years. At one time, the RCBS 28-145 silhouette bullet would not chamber. It does now with no issue, but still will not go into the muzzle. It still has the original trigger that breaks clean around 1 lb. I am thinking about rebarreling it and putting an aftermarket trigger. I relly like the 7br anf want to go back with it.
Three questions:
Who is making a good aftermarket trigger?
Who is making good barrels?
Shilen shows a .307 neck and a .310 neck. Any recommendations on the tight neck?

for triggers, The best are either a dell Taylor or a Mike dewey trigger. both of these are adjustable under 4ozs.

if you want contoured barrels, you have shilen, Lilja and Mcgowen. used them all and are good.

you can also have a gunsmith contour and chamber a barrel to what you like. I like Pac Nor barrels but they run tight and may be too tight for a cast bullet.

a .310 neck should work with almost all brass without neck turning. a .307 may require neck turning with brass like Lapua.

Dell's info is on the main page under 'Region 6 director'.

Also, his info can be found in any of the newsletters.

I am shooting a LBT 130 gr cast and have the RCBS mould on hand which runs about 150gr. Shilen has a 1 in 9 twist for bullets up to bullets up 170gr and a 1 in 11 for bullets up to 140. I would rather go with the 1 in 11 twist, but am concerned about the lower velocity of the 7br not having the rpm's to stabilize the LBT. Any thoughts?

not sure about the slower twist. All the 7BR's I have owned have had a 1-9 twist.
