Dan Wesson Question

Post by 7br »

I am working up loads for a 715. Last night at the range, the barrel shroud worked itself loose. I am pretty sure I tightened it well. Any suggestions on keeping it from happening again? I am hesitant about using locktite on the nut.

Did the nut come loose or the barrel? My 740 supermag has left hand twist. It actually screwed the barrel in over time. I almost didn't get the nut loose. Had to Loctite the barrel in. Is the 715 a right hand twist and the barrel actually screwed itself out? Some of those Louisiana boys will chime in soon. They've been shooting DWs for a long time.

Take the barrel shroud and place it in a freezer over night.
Next day screw in the barrel and set cylinder gap.
Slide on cold shroud and tighten nut.
When shroud warms up it will expand and tighten on the gun.
To remove a barrel/shroud that has been assembled this way you will need to put the whole gun in a freezer overnight.
Next day take a funnel and pour boiling water down the barrel from the cylinder end.
The barrel will expand enough to allow the nut to be removed.
Of course when placing shroud or whole gun in freezer place them in plastic bags.
No need to leave grip on gun when in freezer.
Works great.

That sounds like a plan. I was going to give it a good cleaning this weekend anyway. Thank you.
