1/2 scale gun

OK, pardon the rambling, but would like to tap into the vast experience here. I've only been shooting IHMSA for about 3 years, BB/ SB/ FP so far. Would like to ((try)) shooting 1/2 scale. Did a little bench testing with my trusty T/C Hornet, and accuracy is OK, but not enough juice to knock down 1/2 scale rams I fear. Have a 7TCU, but would like something a little easier on the old wrists. We have an extra Hornet barrel and thought of going to K-Hornet. Also have an extra 14".22 rimfire. Could that be reamed to K-Hornet (also thinking of extractor)? Would rather not have to buy another caliber setup (budget $$).

Oh, I do have a 32 H&R Mag barrel, anyone have good results with that caliber on 1/2 scale?

I shot a 32 Mag on big bore years ago with 150 grain bullets. Mild recoil but not enough power to knock over BB pigs. I suspect if you tried a "moderate" load with 125 grain bullets in the 32 Mag that it would work for the 1/2 scale rams. I'm pretty sure any 125 bullet that can even reach the C, P and Ts would knock them over. Rams might be iffy but would depend upon the velocity of your load. I'm betting the recoil even with a so called stout load with 125 bullets would be easy on your wrists. Might be fun to try that caliber on 1/2 scale.

Thanks,
I actually have a small stash of 125's, so may give it a try.

I fired a half-scale entry this year with my 14" 22 Hornet using 55 grain bullets. Hit 39x40 - knocked down 39x40 ! Lucky - perhaps, but is certainly was fun !!

Haven't tried 55s, not sure my barrels will shoot them, but worth a try.....

My 14" 22 Hornet barrel is a MGM - I-10" twist. I do shoot 55's in my factory 10" 22 Hornet - very accurate !
