Phil Briggs Rolling Block 30-30 Pistol

Post by 260 Striker »

Back in 1982 Phil Briggs had a 30-30 rolling block pistol made for IHMSA competition. Does anyone know what happened to Phil or where that pistol ended up? It sure looked like it would be a great unlimited gun. Seems like he found some very respectable loads for it. Wish I had the skills to build something like that. I like the odd ball guns and love shooting my Striker. Just wish I knew how to center grip my Striker since it does get nose heavy during long matches.

I have every IHMSA news from March 80' to present. The only article from Briggs that I can remember is on his XP 708.
I'll look through my news and see if I can find something on it,can't promise a time frame.

Hi Jackie,
I should have explained better. Phil's article was in the March/April 1981 issue of American Handgunner. I Googled and found the copy online. I know I have the magazine stashed somewhere. As I remember the gun was very accurate and really looked nice. Older style sights that were common in the 80s, might have been a micro rear on a full rib. Too bad guns like that disappear. Probably in Phil's collection if he is still around. The old 30-30 is still very accurate and I dig out my 10" Contender in 30-30 and shoot cast bullets when I have the time at our matches. We are down to one day matches so don't get to shoot as many guns as I used to. Don't ever think Phil did an article for the IHMSA news. I have all the issues too and don't ever remember seeing his name ever shooting a match with the rolling block.

Hi! Yep It looks like something from the Blackpowder days! First one I've seen. I bet the Dover tail Bomar would fit perfectly. **==
