Well damn. I wish I knew about the 6br lapua brass. I passed some up a few months back.

One has to be careful about that brass. If you have an older gun chambered with a Remington 6BR reamer, the Lapua brass won't fit. It is too thick at the web. Those guns were built long before Lapua ever came out with any 6 BR brass.

Not one of my XP-100's can use the Lapua stuff.

I have a 7br XP. Will the 6br brass necked up to 7mm still have the same problem in a 7br chamber?

Dave, I have used 6BR Lapua brass (got in trade) in a XP 7BR with factory chambering and it worked OK. I can't afford that high dollar brass!!!

some words of caution on Lapua brass.

some info first:

Remington BR cartridges have a Max case length of 1.520"
Norma BR cartridges have a Max case length of 1.560"

so, if you have a BR cartridge (7BR, Etc) set to Remington specs, you will need to trim the Lapua brass.

and second, Lapua Brass has a tendency to develop a Donut in the neck when sized up, to get rid of that, you will need to neck turn the brass.

and last, lapua brass runs about .002-.003" thicker neck than Remington brass.

these might be the reason you may not be able to use the lapua brass.

I am aware of the brass specs. It is the web thickness that is the problem. Even taking a new, empty 6BR case and trying to insert it in a 7 or 30BR barrel results in the case lacking at least 3/8 to 1/2" from fully seating in the chamber.

However, despite some who say that Remington is junky brass, it has worked just fine for me in all my BR-chambered guns. I'm still shooting the original 1986 brass in my first XP-100 today, and it has over 17,000 rounds down the barrel. I have lost no brass over all those years.

I have to agree with you that My Old Remington Brass worked like a charm (brass before 1994) and I was very happy with them. But the lot I bought in 1998 was Pure Junk (last time I bought any). This I threw 3 cases away because the new cases had a Hole in the shoulder! and I lost about 20% of the cases after the 4th reloading due to neck splits.

Based on the reviews after 2002 though, the brass seems to get high reviews, so mine may have been a Bad lot.

The lapua brass can be annoying to reload though, as in my Wichita in 7BR (rebarrelled in 1985) requires me to Full Length resize Every time, or they won't chamber.

the norma brass though I bought for my 6BR was slightly smaller in the web, but it is a lot more expensive than Lapua (and harder to find).

BUT, This is a Moot point now. It appears that remington No longer Makes 7BR Brass and I checked Midway, the last time they received Remington 7BR brass was in 2012.

It is a seasonal thing with them, but not every season. Perhaps due to the "shortages" of the last couple of years, it may be on the back burner...on the spare stove across the street! I have enough right now, but I will buy some more when the make the next batch.
