260striker, I dont know if you remember this, or not, but when Ruger brought
out the first .357 Max revolver, Elgin Gates praised Bill Ruger like he was some kind
of phenom, which in some ways he was. But, after Dan Wesson brought out their
version, the MK-40, Gates and some of his fellows trashed Ruger pretty good in
the IHMSA newspaper, saying Ruger didnt make the cylinder long enough, like
Gates had suggested. Lots of little crappy comments like that. I dont think
anyone at Ruger after that would even think twice about producing ANYTHING
for out sport. And, I wouldnt blame them! That stuff that Gates wrote in the
IHMSA newspaper was uncalled for, I think.

Yes I remember some of those negative comments back then directed to Ruger. I remember Remington was also talked about when they brought out their shortened 357 MAX cartridge instead of the full length one that Elgin intended. At least some new guns were being built back then for silhouette use but now days hardly any manufacturer even knows what IHMSA is about. It wouldn't take too much to put 357 and 41 mag cylinders and barrels on the 10 1/2" RSB revolvers so not like designing a whole new gun like the old Maxes. I guess their sales of the 44 mag 10 1/2" models isn't that great to warrant making other calibers.

Which commonly available revolver suitable for IHMSA competition has the flattest trajectory? I'm still on a quest for one caliber that would be useable in all three classes. I know using one caliber for all three would not be as competitive as three specialized calibers. Right now I can use .44 mag for all three, but with a revolver at 200 meters, the trajectory is like that of a softball. The magnum research .30-30 would have a flat trajectory, but the gun is too heavy to be legal. The .357 Max revolvers are pretty stinkin' scarce.

260STRIKER, I think the reason you didnt get a response from Ruger, is they
got trashed by Elgin Gates after Dan Wesson came out with their version of
the .357 Max revolver. Ruger was the fair haired child when they marketed
the first version, and Bill Ruger could do no wrong! But, that all changed
after Dan Wesson brought the Mk-40 to market. There were some snide remarks
made about Ruger, they didnt make the cylinder long enough like Wesson did, etc.
For this and other reasons, I doubt you will ever see anything for silhouette from
Ruger, ever!
