Allen, I remember reading somewhere that the Max cartridges with the real short necks were supposed to have almost the same case capacity as the TCU case. I would think using a starting load for a 7TCU with the same bullet weight would get you a good starting point. You could probably drop a grain to start but those low starting charges are pretty mild in the TCUs. If you have a 7TCU case fill it to the neck with some fine ball powder and do the same with one of your Max cases and compare the two charges.

lynn. the 270 maxi does not have a short neck like the 7 super mag. there's some load data in some of the older silhouette papers. when we moved into the new house 3 months ago I got rid of all my old papers. figured somebody had some of the older ones and could look up the data for me. I tried some loads for a tcu and they were toooo hot. allen

Without tested load data, you are left to "guestimate". If you go that route, case capacity is only one factor. You have to take into account bore diameter. Two cartridges with identical case volume and bullet weight but different bore diameters will exhibit different pressure levels. The smaller the bore, the higher the pressure.

Allen, Do you have any idea what years the 270 Max were written up in the papers? I have a bunch of old issues and will look if you have an idea of what years to search through.

lynn, have no idea on the years. I too tried the 150's without any luck with 21.5, 21, and 20.5 gr of h-322. the 21.5 gr load was too hot. wouldn't eject spent case. I tried 20.5 gr. they will eject most of the time, but hitting all over the place. I got some hornady 130's coming to try. hopefully they will stabilize. thanks allen

Allen, Did you ever find any load info for the 270 Max? I have a chance to get a 14" ported 270 Max barrel and dies and was looking for load info tonight on the Internet but can't find much. Just wondering if you ever got some good loads worked up with the 130s and 150s. I did see where aggshooter used a 270 Max years ago so maybe he has some old trusty loads. I really suck in standing classes but wonder how the 270 Max would do as a US gun.
