Jim Fields Match Write-up
2016 Oklahoma State Championship
June 3rd, 4th & 5th
By Jim Fields
Match Director
With the weather co-operating with mild temperatures & light winds, our state match was a huge success with 109 total entries, down some from previous years. Three or four of our main shooters were out of state or banged up or we would have been close to our average of 140 entries.
Some great scores were shot but the good news was everyone had a great time shooting steel no matter what their score was.
The cook-out on Saturday evening was great with Teresa & Joe Coleman & Paula Hott doing the honors with the hamburgers & brauts.
We had a total of 19 perfect 60x60's shot in this match which was a little down from previous years, however 19 wasn't bad.
Folks shooting perfect 60x60 were: GARY CREWS, (2) UAS-Int. SB & UAS-Int. BB; JIM FIELDS, (1) UAS-Int. SB; RYAN SCHUFF (1) UAS-Int. SB; WOODY LIDDELL, (3) U-Int. BB., U-Int. SB & UASFS-Int. JACKIE BROWN (1) UAS-Int. SB; DEBBY TESSMAN (1) UAS_Int. BB; JACK TESSMAN (3) UAS-Int. BB, UAS-Int. SB & UASFS-Int. SCOTT THOMPSON (3) UAS-Int.-BB; UASHS-Int. & U-Int.-SB. RANDY RAHNNBERG (1) UAS-AAA SB, JOSH DELSO (1) UAS-AAA; DON KLEIN (1) UAS-AAA-BB. STEVEN CREWS (1) UAS-AAA-SB. Great shooting everyone.
Randy Rahnnberg, & Josh Delso a couple of our new shooters this year, shot perfect 60x60's in UAS-SB at this match, Randy is our match director for the black powder cartridge division, great shooting guys.
High Junior in UAS-Int. SB with a 60x60+9; UASFS-AA 58x60; UAS-BB-Int. 55x60, was Ryan Schuff my grandson, great shooting Ryan; Ryan will be 15 years old on July 19th.
Debby Tessman was high lady in UAS-Int. BB with a perfect 60x60, congrats Debby.
Jack Tessman, Debby's hubby was our 500 meter champion with a great score of 38x40, great shooting Jack.
We also appreciated Bill & Linda Lanning, also from Kansas attending our match, Linda by the way was our high lady 1/5 scale champion, good shooting Linda. They are from Atwood, KS.
We didn't shoot the AIR part of match this year for the first time in a long time, for lack of participation.
We appreciated all of our out-of-state shooters who attended this match including Joe & Teresa Coleman from Texas who also helped a lot with our match. Joe was both production & revolver champion in the smallbore competition, great shooting Joe. And not to be out-done, Teresa was both PH long range as well as PH short range champion, way to go girl.
We had a great response from some of the manufacturers & dealers for our sport of silhouette shooting which included Mid-Way, Sierra Bullets, Champion’s Choice, Brownells, Starline & of course Cabelas who will be our sponsor in the upcoming IHMSA World Championship July 15th thru the 23rd. I think everyone won something. Our appreciation goes to all who donated their products to our state match.
Our target painters helped make this match a total success, including my co-match directors Dave Stone, Jackie Brown & Jim Meyers who donated their time calling the line & helping with the match. This was Jim's first 60 round match, Jim is also a new shooter this year.
Speaking of our auto-reset system we just completed rhe 500 meter range which now is on auto-reset along with our big bore range out to 200 meters. Push one (1) remote wireless button & 5,000 pounds of targets pop up out to the 500 meter ram line. All controlled with a 9-volt Dura-Cell battery. Thanks to everyone who donated their time on this 500 meter all winter project..
We averaged twenty-five (25) relays per day during this 3-day state match, WOW!!!! That is a bunch of relays per day.
Those helping with the noon meals were Debby Tessman, Teresa Coleman & Paula Hott, Paula is the better half of Wayne.
See all the results accompanying this match report.
Shoot safe, shoot straight & see you at the next match.
