Return of Big Bore to Louisiana

Post by high standard 40 »

There is a strong possibility that we will once again be able to have Big Bore matches in Louisiana. I'm working hard to make this become a reality. I can't take full credit for this, because the project is being spearheaded by a group of rifle silhouette shooters. I am attempting to "hook my cart to their mule". I have already provided some rails to this undertaking and will provide yet more rails as soon as I can get them loaded (200 mile trip.......one way....and railroad rails aren't light). Targets are on hand and construction is slated to start soon on a covered firing line and the needed berms. This will be a private range and will not be affiliated with any established gun club. The site is near Baton Rouge and is well suited for our purpose: very rural and removed from residential areas.

It's not a firm reality yet, but I will do what I can to see it through. When we can get this all worked out, I will post the details here. Matches could begin next year.

Good luck with your project. I hope you can get a new range up and running. We need more places to shoot silhouettes. I'm sure some other LA shooters will join your project once it gets rolling. OH is a little too far to come help on a weekend but I will be there in spirit. Spirits don't do much work though!!!

I'm resurrecting this thread for new developments. I'm in discussions with another group of shooters and an established shooting range about hosting IHMSA Big Bore matches in conjunction with some NRA rifle shooters. I don't want to be overly optimistic just yet because of past setbacks. I will keep everyone updated as this moves forward.

I'm sure a lot of shooters have their fingers crossed and you will get something worked out.
