Re: If IHMSA was starting today...

Pat, FP began as straightwall cases of 1.29 or 1.30''. Along the way we allowed the 32-20 which is not a true straightwall but close enough to it. Along came the .22 Hornet, again not a straightwall. However, not the K-Hornet. We allowed the 270 REN and later the 25-20. Many of us adopted the standa...

Re: 45 Colt

Melvin early on (1980 or so) I used a Ruger BH 7 1/2'' in 45 Colt. I learned that SWC bullets lose 40 or more % of muzzle velocity. The harder you push the more they lose. The Ruger would stand heavy loads. It would also blister your bare hand with oversized Herrett grips. The advice is true---if yo...

Re: BF pistols

I believe mine is #173. It is pretty much as Melvin described. However, it has a great trigger. I'd shoot it more but the extraction is a pain. The chamber is tight and you better not fail to size cases enough. It will absolutely refuse just a little bit too long or a slightly high primer. That is, ...

Re: Heavy cast loads for 30 Carbine

Okie, I havent shot that bullet. A friend uses the RCBS 165 Sil with good success. He is using 4198 but also usable are 4227, 1680, and Re-7 with appropriate charges. You give up a lot of trajectory with 180 and 200gr bullets. I've been campaigning both the 30 Reece and 300W; the Reece gets RCBS 165...

Re: 22 WMR (mag.) - Why is this cartridge not used much?

Forest, my guess is that most of us reload and it isnt much of a step to shoot and reload the Hornet. For those who dont care to reload it may be a good choice. (Predicated on the ability to obtain components for the Hornet). Then, you could just shoot 22LR and accept the losses on Rams. If you can ...

Dean Phillips passed March 1st in Macon Ga. You can read the obituary by searching G Dean Phillips Georgia. There is a nice one by Dignity Memorial and another at Legacy.com . Dean served in the U S Army and was a founding member of the Fort Valley (Ga) Gun Club. Those who shot there may remember hi...
