Re: 357 loads for Field Pistol

I have had good luck with a .38 ++P load using HP-38 or HS-6, .38 RP brass and a Penn 158 TC hard cast (.357 warm rated). I was loading slightly above Lyman +P data. I should think the same load would work well with a jacketed bullet. Take precautions to prevent any chance of mixing with .38 spl onl...

Re: Coated Bullets and Leading

I have flirted briefly with coated bullets in 9mm, .357 and .41 Magnum. I am generally not a fan. They were acceptable in 9mm for generic blasting/IDPA type ammo. In the revolver cartridges, I found them inferior for either high performance or reduced loads. At higher velocities, they failed in the ...

Re: New to 7TCU

I wouldn't worry too much about fire forming the cases. They do just about as well before fire forming. That is the beauty of the 7TCU cartridge. I was unclear. I do like to plink also on reduced range/size targets in my back yard. A soft load would be useful here to practice with my gun, fireform ...

New to 7TCU

New to loading this round and the contender. Just made up some loads yesterday using W748 and some 140 PRVI pulls that came with the gun. They grouped surprisingly well, breaking 2" at 100 with a 2x scope. I'm impressed. Now for the questions. I have 100 Win reformed brass that are in questiona...

Re: Titegroup

I tried some in .38, .357 and 9mm. I got serviceable loads, but was not able to match the accuracy in .38 and .357 that I got with HP 38 or HS-6. It was a good powder for 9mm, as accuracy is a relative term for my application in that round, couldn't tell the difference vs HP38. One thing I did not l...

Re: .41 Mag loads

Well, my Penn 215s finally arrived in late July, just in time for my work to go crazy and drown me in overtime. Now it's slowing down, so I hope to get out to the range for some more time with my "deer" load to make some brass, then back to the reload room and play with the Penns. Accordin...

.357/.38 loads

I'll preface this by saying I'm not a serious competitor. Still in the getting my feet wet stage, and I'm cheap. After my first match punishing myself a bit with a Ruger BH .41, I decided to get myself a more efficient revolver, partly for field pistol, but also for general plinking and knocking aro...

Re: Anyone powder coating CBs?

Old post, but I'll share my experiences. New to silhouette, but have tried both Missouri Hi-tek and Acme coated bullets for various applications with mixed results. I like them for 1000ish fps velocities. I shoot them extensively in 9mm for some practical shooting courses I run and the occasional in...

Re: First match today

Shot again today and finally killed some of those bastard turkeys! Even hit 4/10 at the big bore line in an evil wind. Yeah, I probably am hooked. Thanks a lot, don't tell my wife.

Re: .41 Mag loads

Revisiting this now that my first match is behind me and I have a better idea of expectations of my load going forward. What I learned today. My standard practice load for this pistol, a box-stock Blackhawk 6" was adequate for field pistol and BB chicks and pigs, even a bit stiffer than necessa...
